Cleveland Gift Guide: 10 gift ideas from local businesses

Where do we, owners of a shop full of great gifts, shop for OUR gifting needs (and well, for ourselves...)? Outside of our doors, we are incredibly lucky to have so many remarkable, local options in our neighborhoods! We thought we'd highlight some of our favorite places to shop (food + drink included), along with gift ideas we love from each.

Here are our 10 picks to shop local in Cleveland this holiday season.

1. Ohio City Provisions

For the chef in your fam who knows how to appreciate the best in local foods.

Ohio City Provisions is our family's neighborhood butcher, grocer, and trusted resource for all things meats and farm local foods. Cheese and meat bits for a picnic? Check. Heirloom grain and bean varieties? Check. Top-notch advice and tips for all manner of cuts and preparation? Check Check.  Give a gift card to your friend that loves to cook, so they can get giddy about finding quality ingredients for their next recipe. We know the fantastic butchers there will steer them in the right direction (pun 100% intended).

2. Threefold Gifts

For your talented, artistic friend, who deserves something one-of-a-kind, you know, just like them.

The ladies behind Threefold Gifts, a local shop based in Lakewood, do an incredible job at sourcing and supporting talented makers, do-ers, dreamers. Totally guaranteed to find hidden treasures, many handmade, all unique and fun. One idea we love from their shop, these linen pencil pouches, hand-dyed in beautiful indigo patterns. Can I have this? Please?

3. Frayed Knot Farm

For the naturalist, the one who loves momma nature in all her many iterations.

If you follow us on social media, then you know how much we love Em of Frayed Knot Farm. We have had the opportunity to collaborate with her and have our shops serve as a home base for her CSA bouquet subscriptions the past few years. Her local farm blooms are simply stunning, and we love the idea of gifting a 2021 subscription... we all can use something beautiful to look forward to, no? And the added bonus is supporting regenerative farming practices, local agriculture, a small scale farmer, and her biz! In perfect timing, her subscription sign-up form just opened up today!!

4. Helm Collective

For the homebody (OK, that's all of us presently...), a stellar vintage piece to add to their growing collection.

We could wax poetic about Helm Collective for days, so let's just say... if you haven't been to Nicola's shop yet in Ohio City, it's worth a visit. And then another visit. Because she's always finding and adding new treasure bits. We love the idea of gifting vintage homewares to friends... they have a story, a history. And we love that. Like this handpainted, ceramic platter

5. Liza Michelle Jewelry

For your goddess, friend/lover/mother/sister/human, who's effortlessly chic and powerful as hell.

It's no secret that Liza, designer and owner behind Liza Michelle Jewelry, is not only my dearest friend but also a remarkably talented human. I wear her work every day, and it's exactly the sort of touchstone type of beauty I want on my body, all the time. I know gifting it will be the same,  I especially love the natural textures in this yellow bronze, two-charm necklace from her ICON collection.

6. Oh Pink! Party Shop

For your couldn't-survive-without-you co-worker, cause we all have them (even with Zoom!).

The neighborhood party shop that's always a colorful explosion to explore. Check out Catherine's collection of festive plates, napkins, cups, balloons to make your household stay-home New Year's Eve night a little jazzier. We all deserve it, seriously. We also love her paper goods for stocking stuffer bits, like this cheeky notepad here

7. Spice for Life

For the traveler who's missing the diverse flavors of the world...

The Van Aken District has a whole host of shops and food spots to find gifties including one of our go-to's- Spice for Life. Since we can't go to Marrakesh for our Ras al Hanout spice mix (seriously life-changing), Spice for Life is your "can't presently cross the globe" alternative.  Have their team help you pick out the flavors from countries your favorite traveler misses or hopes to visit soon one day soon.

8. Kate's Fish

Again, for the chef folk, cause we can't help ourselves.

For every successful seafood recipe we cook at home, we have the team at Kate's to thank. Kate's Fish in West Side Market has been our trusted fishmonger for years now, (and if you know us, you know that's a sacred relationship...tell Tom or Travis we sent you!) Fish for a gift you say?! Yeah. Andrew gave me a whole Spanish Mackerel for my birthday, so we might be those people. Also, Oysters. So.

Cooking together is a really special thing, give it a go.

9. Salty Not Sweet

Which one speaks to you or yours?

We are lucky as hell to have a neighbor like Candra... I've gone to her for everything from an extra glue gun, to champagne, or generous words when life and work are hard. She is a powerhouse. Full stop. She's also really good at finding gifts that will make you snort a drink out of your nose. So, we support that. Check out her collection of prayer candles- we love this play on things-  dedicated to our current gods and goddesses. You can shop their Instagram, here, to have anything shipped to you!

10. Hansa House

For the person you can't wait to share a beer with.

Hansa solidly holds down the corner of 26th and Lorain, offering all that old world charm and damn good beer. We would be lying if we said it wasn't a post-work stop. Cause it is. If you haven't wandered the Import Shop, you simply must. It's the stop for delicious Alpine chocolates and weirdy mustards and such, and we just love it.

It means so, so much right now- join us in supporting local business owners this season, in any way you can! (Remember- sharing, liking and commenting on internet bits helps too!!)
