Cleveland Gift Guide: 10 gift ideas from local businesses

Where do we, owners of a shop full of great gifts, shop for OUR gifting needs (and well, for ourselves...)? Outside of our doors, we are incredibly lucky to have so many remarkable, local options in our neighborhoods! We thought we'd highlight some of our favorite places to shop (food + drink included), along with gift ideas we love from each.

Here are our 10 picks to shop local in Cleveland this holiday season.

1. Ohio City Provisions

Ohio City Provisions is our family's neighborhood butcher, grocer, and trusted resource for all things meats and farm local foods. Cheese and meat bits for a picnic? Check. Heirloom grain and bean varieties? Check. Top-notch advice and tips for all manner of cuts and preparation? Check Check.  Give a gift card to your friend that loves to cook, so they can get giddy about finding quality ingredients for their next recipe. We know the fantastic butchers there will steer them in the right direction (pun 100% intended).

2. Loganberry Books

The team behind Loganberry Books, in the Larchmere neighborhood, do an incredible job of sourcing new and used books in every genre. You can walk in and browse new releases, but also discover shelves full of old art books, cookbooks, and more. It's a great spot to browse for yourself for hours, but also to find a gift for someone... there is a title for every person on your list, we promise you that.

3. Frayed Knot Farm

If you follow us on social media, then you know how much we love Em of Frayed Knot Farm. We have had the opportunity to collaborate with her and have our shops serve as a home base for her CSA bouquet subscriptions for multiple years now. Her local farm blooms are simply stunning, and we love the idea of gifting a 2023 subscription... we all can use something beautiful to look forward to, no? And the added bonus is supporting regenerative farming practices, local agriculture, a small scale farmer, and her biz! Learn more here!

4. Helm Collective

We could wax poetic about Helm Collective for days, so let's just say... if you haven't been to Nicola's shop yet in Ohio City, it's worth a visit. And then another visit. Because she's always finding and adding new treasure bits. We love the idea of gifting vintage homewares to friends... they have a story, a history. And we love that. Like this set of ceramic mugs.

5. Liza Michelle Jewelry

It's no secret that Liza, designer and owner behind Liza Michelle Jewelry, is not only a dear friend but also a remarkably talented human. I wear her work every day, and it's exactly the sort of touchstone type of beauty I want on my body, all the time. I know gifting it will be the same,  I especially love the natural textures in her ICON collection, like this mixed metal piece, here.

7. Cents Pizza

We have the great pleasure of becoming new neighbors (through our forthcoming cafe, The Judith!) with Cents Pizza on Cleveland's west side. Not only is their food great, but the whole atmosphere is a vibe and such a fun place to meet up with friends. A gift card to the city's coolest new pizza shop is perfect for your in-the-know pals who are always the first to try new places around Cleveland and pass on their recs so the rest of us know where to go.

7. Adun Spice Co.

The Van Aken District has a whole host of shops and food spots to find gifties, including Adun Spice Co. It's a reliable spot to source single origin spices, and speciality spice blends that you won't find elsewhere. Shop owner, Ramat Wiley, also stocks up her space with other amazing foods and ingredients like Akron Honey and our fav, Rancho Gordo beans.

8. Kate's Fish

For every successful seafood recipe we cook at home, we have the team at Kate's to thank. Kate's Fish in West Side Market has been our trusted fishmonger for years now, (and if you know us, you know that's a sacred relationship...tell Tom or Travis we sent you!) Fish for a gift you say?! Yeah. Andrew gave me a whole Spanish Mackerel for my birthday, so we might be those people. Also, Oysters. So.

Cooking together is a really special thing, give it a go.

9. Salty Not Sweet

We had to include our old neighbor from Ohio City! You can always count on Salty Not Sweet to have the gifts that will make you snort a drink out of your nose, like this magnet, and so many other goodies. You can shop their Instagram, here, to have anything shipped to you!

10. Hansa House

Hansa solidly holds down the corner of 26th and Lorain, offering all that old world charm and damn good beer. If you haven't wandered the Import Shop, you simply must. It's the stop for delicious Alpine chocolates and weirdy mustards and such, and we just love it.

It means so, so much right now- join us in supporting local business owners this season, in any way you can! (Remember- sharing, liking and commenting on internet bits helps too!!)
