A Love Letter to Ohio City

A Love Letter to Ohio City

Our R/S home in Ohio City is the space where I grew into myself. Became the leader, the artist, and the part of the community that we are. It is where I fell in love, where I carried my baby, where I met and laughed and felt joy and the power of creation. Where I felt the powerful movement of ideas, passions, and projects. Here, we held space. For many. For you. For myself.

February 14th will be our last day in the Ohio City shop on West 25th. It is not goodbye, West Side, just see you later, in a new and exciting space and lifestyle concept that is in the planning phases right this very minute...

Physical spaces are a language for me and will be part of the reason I will grieve parts of this change. I am tactile and spatial. I am in love with shape and form and texture, as they exist when you enter a home, a shop, a restaurant. I have literally realized dream forms in this space- and that is magic I will always hold close. I am strengthened by the knowledge that you did too- that you felt it, that you cared for it, that you know exactly what I mean.

I hope that you'll join us in saying farewell, and stop in this month to shop this space for one last time.

And then, ready yourselves, because we have great and wild plans. To push that feeling forward, to create spaces and present goods that further all that was cultivated at that special spot on W. 25th Street in Ohio City. We have made space for change, and it will be, in true Room Service fashion- remarkable.

I will never forget the first time I walked into Room Service and met Jennie and Andrew. My senses were awestruck as I gazed around the space, not looking so much at the merchandise, but at the incredibly artistic display before me! On every wall, in every corner and hanging from the ceiling! Even the music was an interesting collection of world instrumentals! It seemed I had entered an artist's space, a gallery and I felt an immediate draw.
Then Jennie introduced herself, glowing with a bright enthusiasm, and her husband, Andrew, looking dapper in his porkpie hat and bowtie! Their welcome was one of true sincerity; and through the years since, has always maintained that truth, honesty and sincerity!
Room Service had become my favorite boutique shop. I have found a wide variety of interesting and unique items not only for myself, but for friends and family. Items from Room Service now reside in Maine, Oregon, Florida and DC (plus loads in CLE!). I have spread the good word about R/S to everyone I know (and some I didn't know) hoping that people would make their way to this wonderful spot and discover what I had discovered!
When I received an email notifying me of their upcoming closure, I literally welled-up...not so much for the loss of a local retail shop, but for the loss of connection to these incredibly creative, kind and humble people. Going into R/S is like sitting down to tea with best friends...
I know it's not permanent, and I will visit the Van Aken location, but I can't shake this overwhelming feeling of loss for the community at large...
Looking forward to the greatness that lies ahead (because I KNOW that Jennie can't sit still!!).
Until then, "Aunt" Amy xoxo

I found my way to your fun store last fall on a visit to CC. I bought a wonderful
basket but really was interested in the kite you had of a boat. I could SHOOT myself for not buying it but I hadn’t had the inspection yet of the 1928 house I was buying in Cincinnati. I got the house and am in refresher mode... I will try to find you when you relocate to NEVERLAND..
